The WEEE Trace system has reached one million appliances managed with full traceability. The WEEE with the figure of one million corresponds to an appliance made in 1984, collected last May 5, 2015 by CARREFOUR in La Coruña and treated in Ferrovial Treatment plant in Cerceda (La Coruña).

As a result of this recycling operation and based on existing processes Cerceda plant recovered 43 kg of materials. This has prevented the emission of more than 2,000 kg of greenhouse gases (GHGs), well above the 3 kg CO2 emitted in the transportation savings, and gases that destroy the ozone layer as CFCs. With all this, the responsible recycling of this waste is equivalent to avoiding emissions of a car driving over 13,000 km.

WEEE TRACE Project just finalized on July 11, its 3 years journey as part of the CIP Eco-innovation Program. However, this is not the end of the project. During this 3 years period Project has been implemented and made operational at the entire supply chain of Ecolec and over 27 million kilogrammes of e-Waste (more than 450,000 units of WEEE) have been managed and traced. As said, project will continue and will be further developed and adapted in support of the interests and evolving needs of Ecolec and other partners. Moreover, replication opportunities will be addressed. So, long life to WEEE TRACE!!!

18/03/2013

Only 4 months ago we announced the first 100 tons of WEEE collected and the 500 tons were reached at the end of January. Today we can proudly announce that the first 1,100 tons of WEEE collected with traceability WEEE TRACE were surpassed yesterday, March 18. Deployment continues! More than 1,000 units of large WEEE already recycled. Detailed information available in this graph

15/10/2012

As pilot phase definitely takes off more than WEEE units have been tagged and are being tracked already. 312 of these units have been recycled already and the rest are in process. Quantities of WEEE units tracked are expected to grow exponentially with the effective deployment of the solution during the coming quarters, but this milestone is worthy to share.

13/09/2012

Reading tests of foam isolated and standards tags placed over large sets of mixed WEEE were performed in September 13 at Recytel recycling facility in Madrid (http://www.recytel.com/).

Tests were performed over sets of assorted WEEE inside collection boxes for both types of tags using mobile readers around boxes first and also making passing through tests of boxes with fixed readers.

Results were promising and differences between tags and reading methods were highlighted.
